The needs-based pricing model exist to expand the accessibility to Come As You Are services.
Some context: I grew up working class, am unmarried, and do not have family wealth or assets. I am European-American, currently able-bodied, after a 15 month healing sabbatical after a physically and mentally grueling (but totally worth it) 6.5 years of caregiving, a first-generation college graduate, without access to family support, born and raised on the West Coast. My income for 2020-2022 was around $11,760 each year. Before that, my income was around 77k annually. I’m not yet financially secure in a long-term way.
I believe in reciprocity and sustainability, I also believe in accessibility. My goal is to provide different tiers of pricing to provide the support each person needs while meeting my business expenses and honoring my work. I am and have been self-financing and bootstrapping my program startup expenses out of cash flow… so if you can afford to pay Full price, I’d appreciate it. If you have a people in your life who could give or lend you the money to pay for these services, please utilize that network rather than the discount prices. Paying the standard rate if you’re able (even on a payment plan) allows me to offer discounts. If you’re not sure if you should utilize this option, contact me at amber@cayayoga.com
I say all this because many people incorrectly assume that if I’m offering discounts, it must be because I don’t need the money. Rather, I offer solidarity discounts as a commitment to equity and accessibility in my business.
