How white supremacy, patriarchy and capitalism hurt EVERYONE and how to Be the Change.

For decades, thru the principles of white supremacy, patriarchy and capitalism Americans have been taught that they should be able to do everything on their own. We have been systematically conditioned to move away from the social support and community setting that made us so successful for generations. We have been sold the idea that you need your  own house, no need for multiple generations to co-habitate. Clean your home, care for children, work and get ahead, pay for everything and do all of the cooking, idea generation and creativity all on our own. We are now far enough removed from a time when even extended family pitched in and neighbors shared labor on large projects, that we don’t really even know how to create this kind of community support anymore. The idea of community and shared effort is both a way to increase satisfaction and success as it is a way to fight against the invisible (and not so invisible) forces that have us working against our best interests.

Personally this started out as a simple attempt to make an impossible situation possible. Necessity, and dare I say desperation, showed me how several people’s limits and desperation, magical talents and reciprocal generosity can exponentially multiply shared benefits. I want to empower more women to find the strength, resilience and meaning in shared experience, burden and reward.

For me the realization that I could do and be better with a village wasn’t something I learned from my mother, my family or my community AND I sure didn’t learn it in school. It was partly the influence of necessity and partly a gift or epiphany from my Creator. That may sound ridiculous, but it’s true. This idea of community, moral elevation, a “village”, isn’t an idea that I came up with all on my own. There have been countless examples in cultures/sub cultures all around us. Even the uber wealthy have been able to hold on to the secret and they never do anything all on their own. They hire help for nutrition, exercise, companionship, child care, housekeeping, emotional processing, idea generation. A coach for this and a coach for that. They recruit investors and hire teams for everything in effect, hiring their own “village”.

All of this is confirmation that we do not all have the same 24 hours in a day!

Some have the ability to multiply their efforts by paying for help AND some have learned to build a network of support so that they aren’t doing all of the work but instead sharing the mental, emotional load in reciprocal relationships. These aren’t just tools for a better life, but for a better world!

Community, real human connection is one way to create a kinder more gentle world.
